1. 2nd phase of creating a fashion line in a group project at the Parsons intensive summer program. The project was focusing on dandyism and bringing it to today. We hit it perfectly in the end. I brought the fantasy, Ashely brought the color, and Mayra brought the sleight of eye that the dandy prided himself on. This collection was, again, for a woman, but why not?   3. Day 1:Because there’s no business like…

    “Orientation”

    Was Orientation, even at Parsons it was still the same. lol

    “Friends or Frenemies?”

    You know how fate likes to work in mysterious ways? Yeah, well I made two friends who are also taking the fashion courses and they are both in different classes. Apparently there are three courses being taught at the same time because demand was so high.

    “He smells nice.”

    I have claimed my classmate crush. He’s Italian, rather down to earth in his apparel, but he wants to design women’s wear. He likes sequins. This is all I have discovered.

    “Croquis”

    Oh good lord… It’s Dr. Howell’s art journal come back from the dead… with more power and vengeance! This is our design book which must contain our Inspiration, Research, and Final pieces. Model drawing is a must 100% of the time.

    “And everything else…”

    Dinner at this place in the Village because we were going to check out guitar stuff but the place had closed. Cheap burgers, but so good! Won’t be doing that every night, don’t worry. Cheap here still isn’t cheap.

  4. New York: Platform 9 and take 5,

    “If you find an ocelot on the train, don’t kill it.”

    Fours hours, four goddamn hours we sat in DC waiting for the train to move. I swear flying monkeys would have done better. What really irked me was talking to Amtrak on the phone to find out we were supposed to have been let off the train to enjoy the fresh air and what-not. Ah, c’est la grande prix called adventure.

    “Mimosas, not just a morning beverage.”

    Arriving in New York, tired and battle-worn, you might think my dear friend and I settled in for a well earned rest. … No you don’t, you would do the same thing we did. We got our unlimited Metro tickets and took to traveling the city. Breakfast at the Washington Square Hotel, where we did not have mimosas, unfortunately. Window shopping in the East Village. Pictures of children and dogs in Washington Square Park. Shopping for School supplies…

    “Out of everyone who’s had this list, you’re the only one who knows what [muslin] is.”

    Good to know my fellow Parsons participants are having trouble like myself. Luckily, the muslin won’t be needed until later, because after the trouble getting back to the apartment, getting some groceries… oh god did we screw up. $6 bags and pure aloe vera juice from Whole Foods. Money wasted. But we learn.

    “Only here for a little while.”

    Decided to utilize some social sites mainly for dating to see if I could… make friends. Oh god, that syntax makes me seem like a slut. No, I really am going to try and make friends. Although… I’ve fallen in and out of lust with so many boys today.

    And here is the start of my journey to become my own fashion designer. Shit, don’t I need needle and thread first?

    So, I’ve been inactive on this tumblr for a long-long-long while. Hey, what can I say? I’m a college student, and I’m really throwing myself into my studies. 18 hours this semester, plus I’m applying to the Parsons summer-fashion program, and I’m bringing a feminist art documentary to my school through my art organization and I’m working in general. The link is to a minuscule article on my first attempt at being a curator. So do bear with me while I attempt to organize my life.

About me

My heroes include Lady Gaga, Alexander McQueen, Marcia Tucker, Diana Vreeland, Dr. Sam Howell (my art history professor at FMU), Bill Cunningham, and many others. These people have helped to shape my ideas about style, art, and fashion; creating a mélange which draws upon every period, from antiquity to modern day pop culture. Here and now I will attempt to add my voice to all the others and in doing so I begin training my eye and mind to be more discerning and expressive on the subject of fashion as art and vice-versa art as fashion. Fashion is a way of living, therefore art is a way of life too.
